15th August, the day India got its independence from British rule, is a unique and a great day that further instils pride in the hearts of every Indian. There is celebration in the air and everyone experiences the great fortune of being an Indian, a citizen of a free country.

At AVM, this day is celebrated in unity with great patriotism. The celebration this year started off with decoration of the school in hues of tricolour. All the students and staff members gathered on the Admin porch under the command of our Sports Teacher Shri Ritesh Desai. The anchoring portfolio was held by Shri Gautam Patel, our Language Teacher.

To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, the chief guest Respected Fuvaji along with Arjun Mama and our Honourable Principal Dr. Vijay Patel unfurled the tricolour which pumped adrenalin within the crowd and enhanced the love for being an Indian; with this energy, all, in unison with the choir, sang the National Flag song, the National Anthem and expressed the joy of freedom. Sweets were distributed amongst the students on this auspicious occasion.

After that, the entire AVM family moved to the school prayer hall for cultural programme and prize distribution ceremony. Rewards and praises to the deserving encourage students who have excelled throughout the year and inspire others to work harder.

The certificate distribution started with the annual school cricket tournament. Team Chintan 11 went on adding feathers to their hat by winning in the Bhoolku Premier League (grades 4 to 6), Yogi Premier League (grades 7 & 8) and Atmiya Premier League (grades 9 to 11).

Students are our future assets. They, at one point will lead the country. So catch them young, groom them and watch them grow. Hence, to help them enhance their skills, our students Yathansh Joshi, Nimit Patel, Keyur Rana, Abhishek Patel and School Headboy Manav Patel were privileged to attend a leadership seminar organised by the M. R. Pai Foundation. Their participation was acknowledged in form of certificates given to them by Vijay Sir.

Our budding Maths genius, Khushal Mehta was then honoured for his performance in the Maths Olympiad.

Debating increases a student’s self-confidence by helping them learn the skills necessary to become a competent and a thoughtful citizen of the nation and world. Our students Dinal Patel, Yathansh Joshi, Nikunj Aggarwal and Nihar Dudhatra brought laurels to the school by winning the South Gujarat Regional Round of the Dr. Nanubhai Amin Debate competition. They got their certificates and blessings from our mentor and the chief guest of the day, Pujya Fuvaji.

A key feature of the programme was the dance performance by senior students. It encompassed a vibrant display of festivity and nationalism. Every student and adult present enjoyed the performance.

In order for the Independence Day not to merely be a part of our holiday list, some sincere and serious efforts have to be put in educating the future generations about the struggles which the freedom fighters underwent to give us the freedom that we take for granted and enjoy today. And that very important responsibility was fulfilled in a very inspiring manner by our Principal Sir, a focused man with a distinct vision and a fountainhead of illuminating ideas. In his speech he highlighted to the students, the different qualities of our freedom fighters like: selflessness in their motives, being courageous in their actions, tireless in their efforts and them working to become capable to bring about the very necessary change. He explained about the need for the students to develop these qualities to take India even further on the path of prosperity.

Our Chief Guest, respected Fuvaji, an idol of knowledge, experience and inspiration to all of us emphasized on living upon a platform where simplicity, honesty and integrity and how following small things in our day to day formed the pillars of an efficient leadership. He reminded us of such incidents from the lives of Sardar Patel, Gandhiji and our ex-president Dr. Abdul Kalam.

A concerted effort by everyone in helping to spread awareness about the lives and teachings of the sons of the soil, who sacrificed their all, so that we could enjoy the freedom, would surely help us get rid of any grey areas in our nation’s path towards development.

Let’s take a firm stand against

Corruption, terrorism;

A firm stand in being united,

And serve our nation
