In the modern history of Bharat, the achievement of independence from the 300-year-old colonial rule is one of the most defining moments, when our country entered the league of modern nation-states as an independent and sovereign republic. In the spirit and lieu of the same, the AVM family also gathered to celebrate Independence Day on 15th August this year. In the early morning hours, as everyone gathered near the flag-hoisting arena to witness the event, the atmosphere echoed with the sounds of melodious tunes playing loud, singing glory to Maa Bharti and its heroes who fought for her independence and sanctity.

Soon thereafter, the flag-hoisting event was held. The head of the Sports department of the school, Ritesh Sir accompanied and assisted the dignitaries in unfurling the tricolour, this was followed by the singing of the national anthem by all. As the national anthem was being sung, one could sense the immediate and heavy sense of pride and responsibility shining on the faces of the students at AVM. Further, the students relished singing ‘Vijayi Vishva Tiranga Pyara, Jhanda  Uncha rahe hamara’ While singing this, the students and teachers felt in their hearts the glory of their motherland and their commitment towards it.

Thereafter, as per tradition, AVM’s principal Dr. Vijay Sir graced the occasion with his invigorating speech. He explained the students about what true devotion and patriotism towards the motherland entails, along with outlining Param Pujya Swamishree’s vision in this regard. His words left the entire audience with a renewed perspective on their sense of duty towards the nation.

As the crowd dispersed to partake in the traditional sweets served to mark the celebration of Independence, one could still sense the electrified patriotic fervour in the air with echoes of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and its tunes playing out loud. After all, it is one of the many days on which we as Bhartiyas take a chance to recall and reinstall a sense of pride for our motherland and what we owe to it.

While this event ended, the wave of patriotism continued to spread with two more events planned for the day, a creative assembly ‘Mera Desh, Meri Bhakti’ by Sundaram House members and a poster-making competition organized by the Arts department of the school.  Thus, the AVM students had a holistic celebration of the 77th Independence Day of Bharat.
