Physical fitness is an important characteristic in one’s personality. As His Divine Holiness Hariprasad Swamishree has chosen the motto of our institution as “Union of Body, Mind and Soul”, we can clearly notice that, besides spirituality and education, one of the main objectives of Swamishree behind creating this institution was to enhance physical fitness of AVM students.

To maintain one’s physique, it is important to be engaged in various sports activities namely, football, basketball, cricket and other invigorating. Football is a pivotal game in the modern world. Moreover, football is an apt game that tests one’s endurance, agility, flexibility and speed. Therefore, the Sports department of Atmiya Vidya Mandir has left no stone unturned in order to leave its trace in this sport.

Atmiya Vidya Mandir’s football team school had participated in the under 17 Subroto Mukerjee Football Competition 2023-24 and played a decisive game against the Millennium’s U-17 team. The faculties involved in this event were Swadesh Sir, Ritesh Sir and Mahesh Sir, who always kept on motivating the team whenever required. This year, the competition was hosted by Mt. Litera Zee School, on 17th of July 2023.

As soon as all the teams reached the venue, there was an announcement of the beginning of the competition. After the toss, AVM’s football team was to compete football players from Millenium school. To begin with, the opponent team scored a goal in the first half of the game, which unsettled our team. But in the second half, the motivation provided by their Sports coach and Instructor during halftime, encouraged AVM players to regain a hold on the game and hit a goal to tie the score one on one. Though efforts were continuously made by both the teams to score a goal and win the match, it was eventually led to a tiebreaker penalty shootout. Unfortunately, fate led AVM team to a disappointing defeat.

It was a memorable experience for the team. Even though we couldn’t win the match, yet we brought home some unforgettable lessons which would help us in the future tournaments. Lastly, to conclude, we got a chance to get exposed to a completely new environment and experience playing with equally competitive players of other schools.
