For the first time ever, the entire world celebrated the ‘International Day of Yoga’ on 21st June 2015. Throughout the various corners of the world, people from different walks of life and different cultures, enthusiastically celebrated this day as also did Atmiya Vidya Mandir!

On Sunday, the 21st of June, all students from standards 8th to 12th assembled in the school prayer hall. The event started at 7:30 AM and was managed by the Sports Department of the school. All students were enthusiastic to learn new aasans and practice what they already knew. After they took their place, the programme started with a speech by Ritesh Sir. He briefed everyone present about the importance of yoga and its history. The practice of Yoga originated in India in ancient days and has remained a vital part of Indian culture while also having reached all across the world.

On this occasion of International Day of Yoga, our prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi celebrated with the youths of India by performing aasans on the Rajpath in Delhi. In fact, it were his efforts and leading by example, that the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. He regularly practices Yoga and frequently and proudly talks about yoga in India and during his foreign visits. It was quite pleasantly surprising that the day was celebrated in more than 150 countries.

After Ritesh Sir’s speech, our school’s yoga teacher, Hemant Sir guided us to perform various aasans. First, the student volunteer team gave demonstration of an aasan and then all the students followed them. After each aasan, Hemant Sir shared its importance with us. All the students very eagerly took part in the event. After about an hour, the programme concluded and it helped the students further realise the importance of yoga and its benefits such as:-

  • Yoga helps in curing and preventing diseases
  • It helps reduce mental tension
  • It provides relaxation to body and mind, and many other benefits.

The students left the prayer hall inspired to making Yoga a part of their daily life!
