AVM Family Splurge in Festive Joy
/0 Comments/in AVM Updates /by Seema JoshiEgo and negativity burnt into flames
The
legend underlying every celebration at Atmiya Vidya Mandir, as also its
mode of conduct, gives the students a glimpse of Hindu culture; however,
all festivities celebrate the victory of the forces of Good over Evil, Dussehra or Vijyadashmi add that extra sparkle with a sense of resolution to defeat the negativity of mind giving a way to new and productive thoughts.
On
the auspicious occasion of Vijyadashmi, in the morning assembly,
respected Vijay Sir, the principal of the school explained the students
the moral message of the occasion of Vijyadashmi. It is also considered
to be an auspicious day to begin new things in life, he said.
In the evening, at the basketball ground, the ritual of Ravan Dahan
was performed. Effigy of Ravan, went up in flames across the firmament
as the sun set on the pious day of Vijyadashmi, marking the victory of
good over the evil. All elders of Atmiya family, saints and children
watched in amazement, the dazzling fireworks lightening up the sky, as
the giant size effigy crackled in the fire.
The Twirl-O-Meter of Garba Dance
Every corner of the campus continued to ripple and vibrate with Navratri and Dussehra celebrations. For it is Navratri- the annual Festival dedicated to the powerful Mother Goddess. A rapturous combination of solemnity and joy and hope, the traditional garba dance was organized at the school Basket Ball ground. The tempo of changed perceptibly, after the exam-mania, the excitement was unprecedented and fervour unmatched. The Navratri night extravaganza made the students dancers whirl with the rhythmic movements of their arms to the musical accompaniment of amplifier.
For the ceremonial ritualistic initiation of the festival, a lamp was lit to be placed at the God’s altar. The arena, setting up of lights created the perfect ambience. The pleasure of being together and a roaring and rapturous razzmatazz of the pulsating beats made every student enjoy at fullest. The twirl- o- meter went up when teachers, didis and house masters joined the students swirling and twirling to the rhythmic beats. All were dancing in groups and circles. The dancers of each concentric circle then weave patterns with each other and with members of the other circle. There was a great deal of freedom in the movements. Some of the students- group was indulge creating glimpses of Rasa, the traditional dance of Gujarat. The origin of the Rasa is traced back to the legends connected with the life of Lord Krishna. Oblivious of the passage of time, the students-dancers continued late into the night.
These celebrations coincide with nature at her happiest and most abundant at the green surroundings of the school. It is the end of the cooling, life giving monsoon. For all those who were donning the Navratri ensemble and graving the garba dance for the first time, and even those who rejoice over it every time, it is going to be a memorable experience to cherish forever.

Teacher’s Day 2011 – Samarpan
/0 Comments/in AVM Updates, Value Based Education /by AVM TeachersIn today’s world, people are becoming more inclined towards e-learning. Electronic technology is trying to take the place of teachers but not at Atmiya Vidya Mandir because it is a different school. Here we believe in the tradition of Guru and shishya and so this day is celebrated here with grandeur. This year it was entitled ‘Samarpan’ which means surrendering to the wisdom of the teachers. The most amazing thing about today’s celebration was that the whole event was organized by the team of 11th standard students. It was so grand that it is difficult to express in words. The event began when the teachers were escorted by the students to their seats on a floral carpet and greeted with hand-made cards. A melodious tune on flute played by Bhoolku Ghanshyam then warmed up the atmosphere. The poojan was offered to Thakorji and the auspicious lamp was lit by respected Principal Sir, Dr. Vijay Patel.
The function was anchored by Bhoolku Sahishnu and Bhoolku Aniruddh. The humour was nicely incorporated in their anchoring and that made the event lively. A presentation was shown about the importance of the day that is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishanan, a great teacher of India. Later on some teachers were interviewed. I still remember the answer given by Kshitij Sir. The question asked was “What makes you a passionate teacher?” And the answer given was “My students make me a passionate teacher.”
Following the interview, a presentation was also shown about our spiritual master and eternal teacher, P.P. Hariprasad Swamiji. Then, a student, Bhoolku Deval expressed his respect to the teachers through a heartfelt song. Later an inspiring skit was performed on how a teacher can bring transformation in student’s life which was directed and enacted by the students. It was followed by an emotional tribute by Vishlesh Gondalia and Atmiya K. Patel through short speeches, to all the teachers who have helped the students in their life’s journey at AVM. Next, there was a breath taking dance choreographed and performed by the students of Std. 9 and 10. In the end a slide show was shown on sweet memories of teachers with students, which was cheered by all the students.
The most memorable moment of the event was a concluding prayer offered by the students to express their gratitude, love and respect for the teachers. The prayer was so touching that all the teachers were in tears. Through prayer the students confessed with utmost humility that they were nothing without teachers.
We the students of A.V.M., are really thankful to all the teachers….
A.V.M. teachers do not teach us history, but inspire to create history.

/0 Comments/in AVM Updates, Value Based Education /by AVM TeachersThe first two days of Suhradam House assembly was dedicated to the childhood of Lord Krishna. The childhood of Lord Krishna was spent in Gokul, Vrundavan. The foster parents Nand-Yashoda nurtured him with great zeal, love and care. As a child he killed many evils and demons and saved the people of Gokul from the clutches of Kans.
A video was also shown on the incidences in Sandeepanee Ashram where his quality of obedience was well depicted as he was the most obedient disciple of his Guru.
Then, the next day was dedicated on the rare quality of true friendship. Sudama was from a poor family and Lord Krishna belonged to the royal family, but this difference in social status did not come in the way of his friendship. As they lost contact over the years, Krishna became the King of Dwarika while Sudama lived as a humble impoverished villager. Sometimes later, Sudama remembered their friendship and thought of seeking help from Lord Krishna. Though initially reluctant to go to his friend for help, Sudama finally goes with some beaten rice as a token of love and also that he had nothing else to offer him. Lord Krishna was greatly pleased to see his old friend. He treats him royally with much love. Overwhelmed by all this, Sudama forgets to ask him for help. But Lord Krishna realizes his friend’s need and grants him with everything he desires. A video was shown in the Jr. as well as the Sr. assembly on it.
The topic for the soft board chosen by Suhradam House was very informative. It was the seven natural wonders and seven industrial wonders. The students decorated the board very artistically. Each picture was hand-painted by the artists of the house.
Another important aspect was that of a saviour of the Universe. Throughout his life, Lord Krishna kept on awakening and evoking everyone against injustice. Lord Krishna had taken birth to abolish the filth of injustice from the Earth.
The week ended with a melodious and heart-warming dance drama performed by the enthusiastic group of Suhradam House. The dance included all the phases of the dynamic personality-from childhood to the charioteer of Arjun in the Mahabharata. The entire Suhradam house students’ had put in a lot of efforts to make the event successful.
Historically, Lord Krishna occupies an extremely important and significant position in the Great War Mahabharata.
All through the week, children learnt numerous qualities of Lord Krishna like friendship, opposing injustice, being obedient to the Gurus, guide and much more. The thoughts and speeches were shared by students of various grades in both the assembly.

Janmashtmi Celebration
/0 Comments/in AVM Updates, Value Based Education /by Seema JoshiNo less than that of Lord Krishna’s childhood, the Gopalas of Atmiya Vidya Mandir were all set to break an earthen pot (handi or matki) suspended with a rope at a height by making human pyramid. Adding more to this excitement, the team of sports teachers planned this as a challenge among the students of different classes. The idea was to create a mound comprising of the team members in an endeavor to crack the pot and grab the contents. The quickest wins the contest.
The hanging pot was filled with chocolates and sweets wrapped in colorful paper. “When the pot is broken, the chocolate and sweets fall out, sending the kids into a frenzy of delight,” In an attempt to reach the pot, kids huddled together to form a human pyramid making it to a convenient height. The event witnessed a lot of fun filled moments, the students of class IX made several attempts with the pyramid but falling as one of them reached the top. But each fall infused more and more enthusiasm and they got into the huddle again and again with double the energy and determination.
The festival indirectly taught them the learning of team work and gave them many fun filled moments that they will cherish for life. The most exciting scene of the event was when students of class X strategized and formed a strong human pyramid to reach the dahi matki suspended at great height. Onlookers were throwing water on the students in order to prevent them from breaking the pot. This event proved to be a perfect amalgamation of sport and fun and providing students an opportunity to be adventurous and to show team spirit and unity… The event ended with the kids playing and engaging into a fun filled water dance.
The teachings of Lord Krishna’s life were all inclusive in the celebration as students were also explained about Lord Krishna as an ideal personality. The preacher of Gita, Lord Krishna’s life is an example, which reflected the power of character. On this very auspicious day, in the morning assembly of Suhradam House, Students were told that Lord Krishna was a true disciple, a friend in need and a compassionate companion. Students were also explained how one can succeed in professional and personal life by learning and trying to emulate Lord Krishna as personification of love and affection and emotionally intelligent.
Inducing Patriotic Fervour: Sundaram House
/0 Comments/in AVM Updates, Value Based Education /by Seema JoshiWe lit the light of hope, and it was not extinguished…
The vision became reality…Bondage became freedom.
And this we left to you as your heritage.
O generation of freedom remember us, the generation of the vision…
-Liam Mac Uistin
These lines of thankfulness are written by an Irish poetic genre…..for the sacrifices of martyrs who brought independence. On the very auspicious occasion of India’s 64th Independence day and its following week, Sundaram House got an opportunity to evoke the solemn passing on of a legacy by those who envisioned freedom and struggled to achieve it, to those generations, who were to enjoy its fruits. Sundaram House students were encouraged to explore and explain Patriotism as a nationalist feeling of pride in or support for our country. And also….how it manifests itself in many forms, both small and large, creating a sense of national pride.
With many activities and presentations, throughout the week, Sundaram House made sincere efforts promoting national unity which starts as a gut instinct, a loyalty and love for country that got to being rooted in the young children in the earliest days of their life.
The patriotic fervour got into the air from Monday 15 August with Independence Day Celebration. On Tuesday, Yash Pachhigar from X A took the audience to a heart-throbbing account of the great sacrifice of Indian Martyrs. He showed a video presentation that of India’s freedom struggle from 1957 till the date of complete independence. Next day was all about India’s achievements in various fields since Independence. Karan of XI Commerce very well presented India’s progressive stride making an impressive stand at International level triggering a feeling of proud for our country for its achievements. Even small things like making others aware of what is so special about our country and at the same time having respect for other countries as well.
On the fourth day of the week, Vishwajeet Solanki and Tanmay Patel from IX made the students aware of some of the prominent problems the nation is fighting with. The next day, on Friday, Kshitij Patankar Sir explained the students what does patriotism mean to the common person of India? How are we to show (show to ourselves, not to others) that we love our country? How do we express the surge of feeling for country… He also mention that the demand of the time is to have a better tomorrow by doing our bit from our side.
The students of Sundaram House prepared a special program to mark the Independence Day. Depicting the life of Mangal Pandey, who was one of the pioneers of the Indian freedom struggle and is believed to be the first Indian hero who rose against the British. He played a major role in the Sepoy Uprising of 1857 that led to the first Indian War of Independence. The role of Mangal Pandey was played by Harshal Gadhiya from X B. The, unforgettable freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, who had imparted the teaching of sacrifice, devotion to righteousness, devotion to nation, helping the society, His role was played by Sonak Ramani of IX A.
Through the soft board displays Sundaram House presented an impressive array of Indian Civilian and Gallantry awards along with short details about them written in an interesting manner. With an extreme elegance and unsurpassable appeal, this short information on prestigious Indian Awards exhibited the virtues as well as value of these honours in the field of art, science, social and civil services, sports as well as military services. This soft board display presented an irresistible appeal to the students to bag these honours in future.
Thus Sundaram House has persuasively conveyed the value or the moral message of patriotism explaining If the new generation of India wants to bring about a real change in feeling and outlook, they will have to rediscover these courageous martyrs who loved India as the mother and approached the fundamental questions of life with a robust physique, sharp intellect, and immense purity of character.
