Showers of His Divine Blessings

Humdrum of daily routine come to a halt

The devotion buzzed and adoration attuned

hearts overjoyed with a sense of belongingness

and every corner of AVM enthralled

His arrival, like showers on a scorching soil

so rejuvenating and so sanctifying.

Our joy knew no bounds when we had the divine presence of H.D.H Hariprasad Swamiji here at AVM campus on 12th June 2012. It is an incredibly amazing feeling to know that Swamiji remembers us and knows about us from wherever He is and His care and concern for us are irrespective of time and distance. He spares time and visits us so that we are able to be more focused and concentrated in our studies so that we flourish with the talent we are gifted with.

In His meeting with students, this time, before going for videsh vicharan, Swamiji gave certain guidelines to students such as “parents ne raji karva, na awade to teacher nu mathu khavu, Sara mitro no sang rakhvo ane 70% minimum marks and to avoid movies in order to develop an unwavering focus” so that we try our best to live up to these approaches (maxims) and results will be rewarding. Still our fickle mind wanders and sometimes our eyes are off from our goals but for Swamiji’s deep concern and love as He personally comes here to bless us, to restore our clarity of mind and determination towards our goal.

We are sure that we will remain ever happy with His constantly flowing grace upon us; Swamiji’s plans for our life are better, bigger and higher than our dreams.

We are very fortunate that our future is being shaped under His kind guidance (with His divine touch) so that we can be instrumental (nimit bhoolku) to convey the message of Atmiyata to the world tomorrow.

Lessons learnt from the Great Depression

An attempt was made to reveal the historical decisions and events that led to the Great Depression during the 1930s in the form of a book review presentation on “Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World”. The author of this book is Liaquat Ahamed, a Pulitzer History Prize winner, who received his education from Cambridge and Harvard and has also worked in the World Bank.

The presentation was prepared and given by a group of four members: Anand Kalavadia (Leader, Reader), Agam Shah (Information), Harsh Solanki (Artist, Concept draws), Vishlesh Gondalia (Presenter, Computing).

The author has explained the cause(s) of the great depression focussing on individuals who had contributed to the start. Benjamin Strong Jr. of the New York Federal Reserve, Montagu Norman of the Bank of England, Émile Moreau of the Banque de France, and Hjalmar Schacht of the Reichsbank were the key players. These were the central bankers of the four major powers of the time – US, Britain, France and Germany. The book unfolds the details by explaining about the situations of these countries before the First World War, The Great Depression and after it.

The conclusion made was – a great depression can occur again if ruthless and unthoughtfull decisions are taken.

There were a few concept draws made on topics like Impact of Corruption and The Causes and Solutions to Corruption.

A cover page was also made by the group. Through this presentation the audience was able to gain the knowledge about how this scam had taken place. With the help of the Judges the students were able to know where to improve upon.

The presentation left both the presenting team and the audience in a thoughtful mode. And one could hear all the thoughts : “What should I do to light that little lamp and keep it lit so that such evils like corruption continues to fade out until it disappears completely?
