Henry Thoreau, the American poet and philosopher’s famous quote “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; there is where they should be. Now put foundations under them” best suits Atmiyans who are at the crossroads – with a lot of passion to pursue their goals while also unclear about choosing horses for courses.

In a bid to fill this vacuum, a series of enlightening exposures from diverse avenues are regularly arranged by AVM every year for its career aspirants. One such dynamic gathering came out of the blue for the students, from Mahindra University (MU) on 21st October 2023. The session conducted by Dr Rishiraj Sir and, Dr Juber Khan Sir, the esteemed envoys from MU, started at about 12 noon, with a warm welcome and introduction of the guests to the audience by Paramrut Sir.

At the outset, by means of breaking the ice, Rishiraj Sir asked about the hobbies of the students which gradually kicked off the main part of the session. In identifying the difference between a hobby and a passion, he pointed out that a hobby engages one’s time whereas a passion engages a person. Passion determines one’s career as well if a pursuer is strongly grounded in considerable foresight about it.

Mahindra University whose mission is to mould young minds into ‘Global Thinkers’ and ‘Engaged Leaders’ constantly inspires its young aspirants of any discipline through its bespoke programs and diverse co-curricular activities. We live in a world of technology where its giant leaps have been felt from the steam engine till the recent digitalization; hence being a technophile is the need of the hour. Nano Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybernetics stem from the current digital revolution. Neil Harbisson, a British born colour-blind artist getting an antenna implanted to experience the world in full colour, Sophia – the world’s first robot citizen, and the first chimpanzee who learned to use Arabic numerals to represent numbers are indeed a few notable citations here. MU’s courses of study truly cater to the growing changes and challenges in every field. We cannot help but wonder what was fiction in the past is now a physical reality. In the near future, drones can be seen to control wars and fly-cameras could be seen to replace their wall-mounted predecessors. If so, the automated Pushpak Viman in the Ramayan and Lord Maha Vishnu’s self-guided Sudharshan Chakra may reincarnate in different get-ups. Hence, brainstorming about the potential scopes for improvement in technology and keeping oneself abreast of its latest developments is a dire need. Above all, acquiring a wider range of skills and knowledge in allied areas of one’s chosen field assures students of confidence and creativity in the long run and adaptability to cope with any professional emergency in the short run.

In relation to the introduction of the courses of Law and Business Studies, these two are interconnected with the growth of technology since any product or service reaches the market under the guidelines of the law. From claiming patent rights and royalties to respecting consumer rights, Law and Business Studies go hand in hand. Artificial Intelligence seems to outweigh human intelligence on the one hand and the questions of one’s privacy, safety, rights and violations are on the rise on the other hand. Though we are proud of living in a world of information, the media platforms are still defiled by misinformation, malinformation and disinformation which needs regulations. On a funny but ironic note, Rishi Sir shared that technology knows a lot more about a person than the person does himself. A brief but clear description of Mahindra University’s vision and mission and the various courses it offers on its multicultural soil marked his conclusion.

The tail-end of the session taken over by Dr Juber Khan Sir shed light on admission process including the early bird offer and the annual fee structure for the programs with a hostel facility if desired.

By attending a well-informed session like this, we, the Atmiyans truly derive a lot of inspiration for a clear career path which, in turn, secures us our deserved avenues.
