The Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament is more of a curtain raiser interschool competition which kick starts a series of regional interschool competitions of different sports. This year, the Essar International School, Surat played host to this popular football competition for both, the under 14 and under 17 categories on the 13th and 14th of July.

Atmiya Vidya Mandir participated in both the categories. It turned out to be a unique experience, especially for the participants of the U-14 team as it was the first occasion for these young players to represent the school in an interschool competition. In a tough draw, they had an opening match against the Alchemy School team. The U-14 boys from AVM bowed out in a very tight match. In the under 17 category, our team progressed till the quarter finals. In the first round match, we were able to beat our opponents with a score of 3-0. Arpitbhai scored twice and in the second half, Ayushbhai Verma also scored a goal. The quarter final match was against the P P Savani school team. In an absorbing first half, Manavbhai gave the lead only to be levelled before the half time. However, in the second half, our team conceded two goals and lost the match 3-1. It was still an encouraging show from the boys as almost all the players in the team were playing at this level for the first time.

A special mention to our school football coach Tejas Sir for working very hard in preparing our school football teams. We congratulate the Essar International School for hosting such a wonderful tournament. Such tournaments are very important to provide motivation and encouragement to the young players to develop their interest in such popular physical activities such as football!
