Kargil Vijay Diwas is just not a day to celebrate but a solemn occasion to be cherished by every Indian. An unforgettable day in the Indian History, when our soldiers displayed extreme valour and fought relentlessly to recapture the heights of KARGIL outposts from Pakistani intruders and brought an end to the 50-day war named ‘Operation Vijay’ successfully.

To commemorate the Rajat Jayanti of this day, Atmiya Vidya Mandir facilitated this event at the school level, coupled with various activities. The activities performed are as follows:

  • Grade 1: Students were asked to light electric diyas and place them along the outline of the India map to pay reverence to our resilient jawans.
  • Grade 2: Kids watched the animated documentary showcasing the life of Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav, who recaptured Tiger Hill [one of the highest mountain peaks to view Mount Everest and Mount Kanchenjunga] in spite of being shot for 15 times in the war. For this indomitable spirit, he was awarded India’s highest military award, the Param Vir Chakra, when he was barely 19 years old! He is also the youngest recipient of this award to date.
  • Grade 3: They celebrated the day by colouring the sketches of drills performed by our soldiers.
  • Grade 4: In unison, the students participated by evoking the slogans of freedom fighters and paid homage to their dedication.
  • Grade 5: In a group, boys of this grade spoke on the Life of Veer Jawans along with the values and lessons learnt from them.
  • Grade 6: Collectively, the students created posters and wrote poems in remembrance of our Kargil Heroes.
  • Grade 7: Working in groups, the students presented the time line of the entire war, highlighting the key moments of the Kargil War.
  • Grade 8: They virtually witnessed the war by watching a documentary that showcased the valour and courage of Captain Vikram Batra, who continued leading his team even after being injured.
  • Grade 9: Students displayed their creativity by crafting bookmarks to commemorate this day and offered them to all the teachers. They also wrote inspiring slogans to evoke a sense of patriotism in every heart and mind as a tribute to the bravery of our soldiers.
  • Grade 10: Students depicted the pain, sufferings and bravery of our Kargil heroes by making posters as a tribute to their devotion in protecting the nation from assailants.

Thus, the day concluded with the slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’ echoing throughout the school, carrying a core message of giving back to the nation in any way possible.
