Just like every year, the arrival of the new season of drizzle, with pitter-patter everywhere on the grounds, could not affect the traditions at Atmiya Vidya Mandir. The Inter House Competitions were not put to a halt even with the beginning of the monsoon season. Within a few days of the completion of the first Inter House Competition of this new academic year 2024-25, another was organized. It was none other than that of Chess! It was conducted under the vibrant mentorship of a chess enthusiast and our sports teachers.
The four prides of the school—Satyam House, Shivam House, Sundaram House, and Suhradam House — each had their own candidates representing their respective houses in the competition. Students from three distinct age groups took part in it. All the teachers and mentors were invited to witness this significant event live. The cooperative audience was delighted to watch the intense matches unfold before their eyes in the Inter House Competition.
The competition comprised four matches in each category: two semifinals, one final, and a third-place match. For each and every participant, winning a single match was really a tough nut to crack. But at the end of the day, only one could be the Champion, and one, the Runner-Up. The outstanding results demonstrating that are presented below:
Sub Junior | Junior | Senior | |
CHAMPIONS | Sundaram | Sundaram | Shivam |
Runners Up | Shivam | Shivam | Suhradam |
3rd Place | Satyam | Suhradam | Sundaram |
4th Place | Suhradam | Satyam | Satyam |
The Inter House Chess Competition is not held just because it’s a tradition. It has numerous merits. It helps in increasing focus, developing critical thinking strategies, teaching students to remain calm, and prioritizing rational thinking. Generally, it is also observed that math lovers and good puzzle solvers are good chess players too. Hence, playing chess is beneficial for the overall development of an individual. Therefore, it is included as one of the Inter House Competitions in the school. The school administration, along with the Sports Teachers, helped conduct a very successful Inter House Chess Competition as all participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
