Inaugural Interhouse Chess Competition 2015-16

As kids grow, it is important to facilitate activities that help ensure their physical and mental development. Like the physical body, brain can also be trained and developed. Brain related skills like problem solving and analytical skills are critical in the contemporary world to succeed. Chess is one game which can help exercise both sides of brain. It can improve attention and strategic thinking in students. At Atmiya Vidya Mandir, to encourage students to take up such sport, the first ever Interhouse Chess Competition was held this year.

Under the able guidance of Hemant Sir and Pravartak Sir, students from all houses took part in this inaugural competition. Like any other interhouse competition, the whole event was divided into three categories: Sub Junior, Junior and Senior. It was very heartening to see that the younger students were very excited to participate and perform well in a sport like chess.

After the preliminary and knock out rounds were through, the finals were scheduled on 1^st August. As expected, these finals were very close and really interesting as all the students performed to the best of their abilities.

In the Sub Junior category, Darshbhai from Sundaram House won the final against Mananbhai.
In the Junior category, Pransubhai of Satyam House won against Hetbhai of Suhradam House.
In the Senior category, Smitbhai Patel from Sundaram House, our Vice Headboy was up against Rutvikbhai Gosai from his own house! Smitbhai won the match in a close contest. In fact, in the Senior category, Sundaram House swept all the way and had taken the top three positions.

Overall, it was a very entertaining and exciting competition. Sundaram House won this first ever Interhouse Chess Competition hands down with a massive lead and Satyam House came second.

Congratulations to all the winners as well Hemant Sir and Pravartak Sir for helping the students to develop their interest and skills in Chess.
