Atmiya Vidya Mandir School believes the only way in which we can equip a new generation to cope with a rapidly changing environment is, to teach them How and Why behind natural and non made phenomenon.
On August 27, 2011, the Science Department of AVM presented an exciting event of Inter House Science Competition.
Opportunities for learning exist everywhere! This Science Competition was an attempt of showing some ways, in which these opportunities can be made use of.
Science Competition highlighted the following events:
· Visual Quiz for Standard I and II
· Live video demonstration Quiz for standard III and IV
· Poster making and presentation for standard V and VI
· Team challenge for standard VII and VIII
· Group presentation for standard IX and X
From Junior group, each participant was engaged in joyful exploration of the scientific world around and harmonizing with it.
During the team challenge activity, the team participants were asked to design a bridge from the given sheets of paper and resource material. Surprisingly the paper bridges were found sturdy enough after the verification of their strength!
Participants of standard IX and X were allotted the topics a week earlier and they were allowed to proceed with their scientific views, keeping presentation outline in mind.
The topics chosen by Science team was
· Satyam House: Sound and its applications/ dispersion and scattering of light
· Shivam House: Chemical Reactions
· Sundaram House: Nervous System (Control and coordination)
· Suhradam House: Exploring Universe
This event was the combination of several scientific skills. The teacher’s role in all activities was not of transforming information but rather one of being a facilitator, a leader and a resource person in a learning process.
The activities were designed to encourage students to observe and explore their environment; to understand relationship in nature and between human and nature; and to learn better how humans are an integral part of the intricate web of life.
Learning Science can be more fun, both for the student and teachers, when it’s based on real experience. We hope that these activities will lead to Joy of understanding, a process in which both students and adults enjoy exploring their environment together.
The entire events were meticulously judged by Honorable Principal Dr. Vijay Patel along with Dr. Rupashree Madam. Vijay Sir announced Satyam House as the overall winner and enlightened the students to promote the analytical ability to develop scientific approach towards the life.

Janmashtmi Celebration
No less than that of Lord Krishna’s childhood, the Gopalas of Atmiya Vidya Mandir were all set to break an earthen pot (handi or matki) suspended with a rope at a height by making human pyramid. Adding more to this excitement, the team of sports teachers planned this as a challenge among the students of different classes. The idea was to create a mound comprising of the team members in an endeavor to crack the pot and grab the contents. The quickest wins the contest.
The hanging pot was filled with chocolates and sweets wrapped in colorful paper. “When the pot is broken, the chocolate and sweets fall out, sending the kids into a frenzy of delight,” In an attempt to reach the pot, kids huddled together to form a human pyramid making it to a convenient height. The event witnessed a lot of fun filled moments, the students of class IX made several attempts with the pyramid but falling as one of them reached the top. But each fall infused more and more enthusiasm and they got into the huddle again and again with double the energy and determination.
The festival indirectly taught them the learning of team work and gave them many fun filled moments that they will cherish for life. The most exciting scene of the event was when students of class X strategized and formed a strong human pyramid to reach the dahi matki suspended at great height. Onlookers were throwing water on the students in order to prevent them from breaking the pot. This event proved to be a perfect amalgamation of sport and fun and providing students an opportunity to be adventurous and to show team spirit and unity… The event ended with the kids playing and engaging into a fun filled water dance.
The teachings of Lord Krishna’s life were all inclusive in the celebration as students were also explained about Lord Krishna as an ideal personality. The preacher of Gita, Lord Krishna’s life is an example, which reflected the power of character. On this very auspicious day, in the morning assembly of Suhradam House, Students were told that Lord Krishna was a true disciple, a friend in need and a compassionate companion. Students were also explained how one can succeed in professional and personal life by learning and trying to emulate Lord Krishna as personification of love and affection and emotionally intelligent.

The childhood of Lord Krishna was spent in Gokul, Vrundavan. The foster parents Nand-Yashoda nurtured him with great zeal, love and care. As a child he killed many evils and demons and saved the people of Gokul from the clutches of Kans.
A video was also shown on the incidences in Sandeepanee Ashram where his quality of obedience was well depicted as he was the most obedient disciple of his Guru.
Then, the next day was dedicated on the rare quality of true friendship. Sudama was from a poor family and Lord Krishna belonged to the royal family, but this difference in social status did not come in the way of his friendship. As they lost contact over the years, Krishna became the King of Dwarika while Sudama lived as a humble impoverished villager. Sometimes later, Sudama remembered their friendship and thought of seeking help from Lord Krishna. Though initially reluctant to go to his friend for help, Sudama finally goes with some beaten rice as a token of love and also that he had nothing else to offer him. Lord Krishna was greatly pleased to see his old friend. He treats him royally with much love. Overwhelmed by all this, Sudama forgets to ask him for help. But Lord Krishna realizes his friend’s need and grants him with everything he desires. A video was shown in the Jr. as well as the Sr. assembly on it.
The topic for the soft board chosen by Suhradam House was very informative. It was the seven natural wonders and seven industrial wonders. The students decorated the board very artistically. Each picture was hand-painted by the artists of the house.
Another important aspect was that of a saviour of the Universe. Throughout his life, Lord Krishna kept on awakening and evoking everyone against injustice. Lord Krishna had taken birth to abolish the filth of injustice from the Earth.
The week ended with a melodious and heart-warming dance drama performed by the enthusiastic group of Suhradam House. The dance included all the phases of the dynamic personality-from childhood to the charioteer of Arjun in the Mahabharata. The entire Suhradam house students’ had put in a lot of efforts to make the event successful.
Historically, Lord Krishna occupies an extremely important and significant position in the Great War Mahabharata.
All through the week, children learnt numerous qualities of Lord Krishna like friendship, opposing injustice, being obedient to the Gurus, guide and much more. The thoughts and speeches were shared by students of various grades in both the assembly.
