On 28th June 2025, 81 students from Classes XI and XII, accompanied by 15 teachers of Atmiya Vidya Mandir, had the remarkable opportunity to visit the SG Plant of Waaree Energies Ltd. at Chikhli, Gujarat. This visit gave us real-world exposure to India’s booming renewable energy sector and a close look at the functioning of the country’s largest vertically integrated solar energy company.
Warm Welcome and Introduction
Our journey began with an enjoyable bus ride from school to the Waaree plant. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the support staff and issued visitor ID cards. A light breakfast was served in Waaree’s clean and thoughtfully designed mess hall, which also included indoor games facilities. We were impressed by how the company ensured the welfare of its employees—not just in terms of work, but also through recreation and comfort.
After breakfast, we gathered in the auditorium for an introduction to the company. The session was led by the customer manager, who shared Waaree’s inspirational growth story—from a small enterprise to a global brand. The company now exports to 24 countries and even has a plant in Texas, USA. With a total production capacity of 12 GW of solar modules and 5.4 GW of solar cells, Waaree stands among the global leaders in solar technology.
Safety Briefing and Group Division
Before we began the plant tour, the Head of the Safety Department briefed us about the safety protocols of the facility. This was followed by the formation of three student groups, each guided by Waaree’s staff, for a detailed walkthrough of the plant.
Exploring the Heart of Waaree
The guided tour included visits to four key areas:
- Cell Line Building (CLB): where raw silicon wafers are transformed into high-efficiency solar cells using largely automated machinery.
- Module Line Building (MLB): where these cells are assembled into solar panels, customized to suit various customer needs.
- Testing Laboratory: a department dedicated to quality assurance, where modules are tested under extreme conditions to ensure durability and efficiency.
- Control Room: the nerve center of the plant, filled with real-time monitoring systems, surveillance footage, warnings, and simulations across multiple screens. It gave us a clear picture of how a massive industrial setup can be controlled with precision.
Every section was a perfect blend of automation, discipline, and innovation. We were also fascinated to know that a special security and operations team works round the clock, ensuring safety and uninterrupted functioning.
Interactive Learning and Thoughtful Hospitality
Throughout the visit, we saw many real-life applications of the physics, chemistry, and commerce concepts we learn in school. The guides patiently answered our questions at every step. Later, in the auditorium, we had a formal Q&A session led by Mr. Roshan Pandey, Head of the Customer Compliance Department, where many of our remaining queries were answered with clarity and enthusiasm.
The Waaree team impressed us with their professionalism, time management, and hospitality. After the tour, we enjoyed a tasty lunch arranged by the company, followed by a group photo that captured the spirit of this memorable day.
Reflection
This industrial visit was much more than just an outing. It gave us a first-hand look at India’s progress in green energy, insights into manufacturing excellence, and inspiration from the journey of a world-class company. The experience taught us that success requires not only great ideas, but also relentless hard work, precision, and strong values.
We are sincerely thankful to Arvind Sir and the Niveshay team, our school and the entire Waaree team for making this visit such a valuable, educational, and unforgettable experience.
