Verbal and Linguistic Intelligence Competition helps students develop their language skills, expression, and creative thinking. Competitions like this are very important for helping Students improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. They help young students become more confident when they communicate, use words more effectively, and come up with new ideas that make sense. In a world where communication is required for success, developing strong language skills in early years is essential. These events also encourage quick thinking, teamwork, and stage presence. These skills are useful both inside and outside the classroom. Conducting such competitions ensures that students do not restrict themselves to textbook learning alone but sharpen their real-time language application.
Atmiya Vidya Mandir recently hosted this competition with the intention to engage students of classes 1–10 with linguistic challenges suited to their age. This competition assessed clarity of speech, vocabulary, poetry, understanding, and spontaneous expression. By providing variety of activities, the school provided an exciting platform that encouraged students to explore and improve their language skills.
The competition was conducted house wise for different, allowing equal participation at all levels. The language teachers efficiently coordinated the entire event, while invited judges assessed the performances with proficiency. The English Language Team has planned various engaging activities for the occasion.
The competition was thoughtfully planned across different grades. For Standards 1 to 3, they were introduced with three activities: Tongue Twisters, Story Illustration Sequencing, and Word Chain. These tasks helped younger Students to improve their pronunciation, logical ordering of ideas, and vocabulary building, all aimed at building a strong foundation in communicative English. Their energy and excitement were evident as they competed house-wise, and in this level, Shivam House emerged victorious.
For Standards 4 to 6, challenges like – Word Builder and Show and Speak were planned. Both of them encouraged the students to explore their vocabulary, think independently, and organize their thoughts with confidence. The participants displayed excellent verbal intelligence and a growing command over their language.
For Grades 7 and 8, the activities challenged them to be more creative and think out of the box. Students took part in Picture-Perfect Word, Poetry on the Spot, and What’s the Word (Verbal Charades). These activities tested their creativity, fluency, and their ability to understand clues and express ideas quickly.
For Standards 9 and 10, were given a different set of challenging activities: Analogies, Tongue Twisters, Completing the Last Line of a Poem, and Turn Coat. These activities were designed to test their logical thinking, clear speech, creativity, and the ability to argue from different perspective. The senior Students performed exceptionally well with resilience, calmness and maturity.
In all the other three grade levels, Sundaram House displayed their grit(determination) and valour and scored the highest.
The enthusiasm generated by the Verbal and Linguistic Intelligence Competition demonstrates the value of co-curricular activities in developing English as a skill. These activities in AVM help students to learn new skills, build confidence, and enjoy the language in a creative, fun-filled and competitive way. The event truly highlighted the importance of good communication skill in a student’s academic life and for their personal development.
