Inter House Skating Competition 2013-14

Stronger foundations are the reason for the stability and strength of a tall building. Likewise in sports, stronger domestic competitions often lead to a strong showing outside of the school.

Skating has always been one of the favorite sports at AVM. Skating can often give you the thrill of speed but also make you realize the importance of balance in our lives. Therefore it was not a surprise that students were very excited to participate in the inter house skating competition. As per the school policy of ‘safety first’, all the students were ready with their protective gears for this very exciting competition.

This year, for the very first time the Beginners group was included through which as young as the students of class 3 participated in the competition. There were also separate groups for Sub Juniors, Juniors and Seniors. Students participated for long as well as short distance races.

Not for the first time this year, the students of Satyam house showed their superiority on the field and swept the competition with a record margin with Sundaram house a distant second.

Here are the results of the competition.

The inter house competition showcased the talent of students along with their will to maintain very high standards. Such a level of skill and commitment, was later rewarded with some excellent performances at the district level. AVM swept the U-14 competition at the district level and three of them were selected to represent the district at the state level later this year.

Below are the students who have made the school proud.

Durgesh Gami (9B) – First

Vishrut Patel (9A) – Second

Hrushi Patel (9A) – Third

On behalf of AVM family we would like to congratulate the three of them on this achievement.

Inter House Table Tennis Tournament 2013-14

The all-time favourite Inter House Table Tennis Tournament went off in style at Atmiya Vidya Mandir on 29th July 2013. The participants, after practicing for a long time, were all set to compete, striving for victory. The tournament lasted for almost a week and each day each game was so narrowing that the level up could be felt. Each competitor was so confident, so enthusiastic that defeat was a hard taste to each one of them. But in the end, only a few were able to pave their way to the top, defeating the players but not their spirits.

P. P. Swamiji always says that winning is not important but participation and the will to win is more important, so it can be clearly stated that all the participants justified their part. But more to it, there was something more than rewards that the players had earned – the habit of hard work, perseverance and sportsmanship.

So in the end, it can be said that the 2013-14 Inter House Table Tennis Tournament was a memorable one.

Here is the final score sheet for the competition.

Some of the students who stood tall amongst all and won their group in individual events. Here are the names of the students who made their House proud in their respective categories.

Inter House Carrom Competition 2013-14

The only downside of rain is no outdoor sports, but that encourages the indoor sports. There are few indoor games which are very exciting as well as can match excitement of any outdoor sports. Carrom certainly fits that category. Students of Atmiya Vidya Mandir enjoyed the first ever Inter House Carrom Competition in the second half of July 2013.

Although carrom is played regularly at AVM, this was the first occasion when the competition was held. Announcement of the competition created a buzz around the school and the presence of obvious excitement was felt amongst the students from all classes.

The competition was divided into three categories: Sub-junior, Junior and Senior.

Students were supposed to take part in pair and compete amongst themselves to be shortlisted from their respective houses for the knockout rounds. After a few days of practice sessions and preliminary rounds, four teams from each of the houses were selected in each category.

Hemant sir and Kalpesh sir organised the competition very effectively. All the other sports teachers also helped in organizing the first inter house sports competition of the year. The location was the activity hall, first floor in Junior Hostel. The matches for the third places and the finals were held on 20th July. Here is a brief summary of the competition.

In the Sub-junior category, Satyam house grabbed the first and the third place, while Sundaram house took the second place.

In the Junior category, Satyam house again won the finals as Suhradam house took the second and the third places.

In the Senior category, Shivam house broke the domination of Satyam house and won that category. While Sundaram house took the second place, Suhradam house got the third place.
