Victory. God. Atmiya Vidya Mandir. Bankim Sir. All these words were synonymous with each other when on 3rd August 2016, the under 17 basketball team of our school clinched the under 17 district championship title held at Vasistha Genesis School, Bardoli.

On the morning of 1st August 2016, the team started its campaign upon reaching the Vasistha Genesis School, the hosts of the tournament. The weather god had been a little unsupportive that day as it had rained a lot.

After a long wait, all was set and time for the first match arrived. It was against the host school team. With a comfortable margin, the match was won by our school team with 10-0 as the final score.

The next match, the quarter-final, was against Essar International School-Surat. Pressure was built upon the team and yet the team started to play with an unbeatable spirit. It was a tough match but our team emerged as the winners when the final whistle was blown. 7-5 was the final score.

The semi-final was against Euro International School and the Atmiya Vidya Mandir team secured a very comfortable win with the final score as 18-0 and was qualified for the finals. But due to excessive rains, the finals were rescheduled for 3rd of August 2016. The team celebrated its three victories with a delicious dinner at a decent local restaurant.

The anticipated day arrived and sharp at 12:00 PM it was time for the finals. The match was against the Fountain Head School-Surat team. The whistle was blown and the ball landed in our court. Our team shot the first 3 pointer and put the rival team in pressure. After a tough game comprising of some commendable shots and skills, we emerged as the winners. The Final was won and the crowd erupted in cheers. The victory was celebrated with a small treat from our coach Bankim Sir.

It was a proud moment for the school as three of the team players: Ojasbhai, Shivambhai and Nisargbhai of class 10 were selected for the state-level and one of them, Mananbhai, got selected as a standby player. Indeed, it was a memorable and proud moment for the players as well as the school.
