The Student Council is an indispensable part of AVM. And establishing the new team, every year, is an enriching experience for all the students.

This year, it all started on 20th June, with the election campaign. One week was allotted to the nominees for the respective positions to appeal to the students and teachers to vote for them and give them a chance to serve the school, their house and become a part of student council. We had exemplary speeches made by all the nominees which did put the voters in a dilemma of electing their representatives later on!

The week concluded with voting for the council on 25th June to end any confusion. All the students from classes 8 to 12 were given a chance to vote. The voting exercise was carried out in the school prayer hall with proper booths set up and with the voters casting their votes using iPads! All the students and teachers were happy to vote for their representatives and were eagerly waiting for the results.

At the time when the cabinet ministry of India was reshuffled, around the same time, the newly elected student council members of Atmiya Vidya Mandir were announced! The day was bright and the atmosphere vibrant.

On the auspicious day of 11th July 2016, the investiture ceremony was held in the school prayer hall to initiate and honour the newly elected student council members for the academic year 2016-2017.The ceremony started at 6 PM in the blissful presence of Pujya Suhrad Swamiji and Pujya Mahatmay Swamiji.

Pujya Suhrad Swamiji, Pujya Mahatmay Swamiji, Pujya Natuda, Pujya Arjun Mama and respected school principal, Vijay Sir were all invited to do the poojan of Thakorji and to pray for an auspicious beginning.

The event then began with march past of the newly elected student council members. The Head Boy and Four House Captains carried the school flag and house flags, respectively, and marched up to the stage followed by the House Vice-Captains.

For the pinning to badges, the respective House Convenors were invited on the stage. First, the Satyam House Captain, Khushalbhai Mehta and Vice-Captain, Anandbhai Niemann were pinned the badges by Satyam House’s Convenor, Prabhudarshan Sir. Simultaneously, the Suhradam House Captain, Devangbhai Patel and Vice-Captain, Niramaybhai Mehta were given their badges by Priyavadan Sir.

Then came the turn of Shivam House Captain, Siddharthbhai Borderwala and Vice-Captain, Mananbhai Mehta; and the Sundaram House Captain, Nisargbhai Patel and Vice-Captain, Harshilbhai Patel; who were allotted their badges by their respective house convenors, Prabhumagna Sir and Gautam Sir. All the members were given huge rounds of applause during the proceedings.

Thereafter was the time for the senior most posts of the student council: the Head Boy, the Vice-Head Boy and the Sports Captain. The newly elected Sports Captain Karanbhai Desai was allocated his badge by Pujya Natuda. The Vice-Head Boy Smitbhai Lad was assigned his badge by our principal Vijay Sir and Pujya Suhrad Swamiji allotted the badge to our Head Boy Yathanshbhai Joshi.

The members of the Council then took an oath to uphold the value system of the school with integrity and sincerity, which formally marked the beginning of their role and responsibility.

After the oath taking ceremony, Yathanshbhai Joshi came up and gave an inspiring speech in which he appealed to all of us to become the leader of our own lives.

A dance performance on the song “Deva Shree Ganesha” added further charm to the event.

After the dance, we had Pujya Suhrad Swamiji sharing his pearls of wisdom with all of us. He discussed a few life incidents of Swamishree as a true leader which was truly inspirational. All of us were very fortunate to receive blessings from Pujya Suhrad Swamiji.

Then, it was our respected principal Vijay Sir who guided the student council members about their responsibilities and also reminded all the students to live up to Swamishree’s expectations of us being better son of our parents and becoming better students of our subjects.

Finally, it was time to light the candles to mark the beginning of a new cheerful year by driving all the darkness of ignorance out from all our lives. The lightning of candles was done by the members of student council.

Indeed it was the end of the pious event, but a fresh start for the upcoming year, as we all received blessings from Pujya Suhrad Swamiji and respected Vijay Sir.

Individually we are a drop but together we are an ocean. We all are “ONE”. It was a mesmerising event which made us realise the importance of being “ONE”.
