Following the tradition of celebrating the festivals with great zeal and devotion, recently, we were privileged to celebrate one of the festivals of Monsoon season: Jal Jhilani Ekadashi. All members of the Atmiya family gathered at the school’s pool side to observe and celebrate the ritual of boat riding of God as Jal Jhilani.

An interesting speech was delivered to us by one of our chief guests, respected Arjun Mama. He explained to us the significance of Jal Jhilani Ekadashi. We learnt that there are three names for this auspicious day: Vaaman Ekadashi, Jal Jhilani Ekadashi and Parivartan Ekadashi. Vaaman Ekadashi got its name, as on this day, Lord Vishnu took the form of His avatar Vaaman. Parivartan Ekadashi got its name because it is said to be the time when Lord Vishnu changed His sleeping position. We celebrate Jal Jhilani Ekadashi to thank God for the rains He gives us every year. The speech marked the start of this wonderful celebration which was followed by a devotional aarti, which brought positive vibrations to everyone’s souls. It was a truly enlightening moment. All our chief guests: respected Vijay Sir, Mahendra Bapa, Natuda offered aarti on our behalf.

Towards the end of the programme, a beautifully decorated boat, with a magnificent murti of Shri Sahajanand Swami Maharaj and Gunatitanand Swamiji was made to float on the pool water. The pool water was further decorated with flower petals and balloons. Students of all the classes took their turn to very gently and devotionally steer the well decorated boat in the pool. Our teachers and Principal Sir were around us to make this event very enjoyable. The atmosphere was filled with joy and devotion. After the celebration, everyone received prasad of cucumber. It was eaten heartily by all students on their way to the hostel.

From this enchanting event of Jal Jhilani Ekadashi at AVM, we learnt that unity or harmony brings us joy and strength to deal with any situation we may face in our lives.

Happy Jal Jhilani Ekadashi!
